We enjoyed the topography, which was challenging but did not leave us too exhausted to enjoy visiting towns, spas and water adventures in the afternoon when we were done riding.
Part of what was a real treat was the well-scoped trips – full of historic sensibility, like the Roman roads, plus local flavour.
We love it that the world does differ – that the countryside in northern Portugal is full of small firms, with their own vineyards and corn and vegetables.
We knew we had travelled someplace special.
